SHE'S HERE!

after all of this waiting and deciding on which kitchen helper i wanted to bring into our family, i finally decided on a BOSCH! i have been waiting for her to arrive and i think she is just as excited to be here as i am. i swear i could hear her calling me from inside the box "Hurry up and get me out of here! I have things to do!" so that is just what i did.

once i quickly dug through all of the packing peanuts (some of which i might add were dissolvable, but not all of them. less than a third! why not do them all?!) i located her exact position in the box. it was time to bring her out and show her our world! ( i know i am a dork, you don't have to tell me that!) WOW, what a great picture of me! whatever... i finally felt like i could get great things done with her.

after all of the excitement in our home, or my head, i can't remember which.... i figured i needed to give her a name. we would be working A LOT together over my next few decades of life, so she needed to have something special. i was thinking it needed to be something memorable, and that i could laugh and cry too. hmmmmmm, gerti or gert for short. i like that.

i will stop talking now and let you see GERT. expect to see great things from her and i, and some failures too i am sure. but hopefully most of all, a lot of fun.

some others

here are just some random pic's of other cake's i have done for various events and happenings.

next on the list

the next cake that i had to do was one for myself for my birthday. YES my hubby offered to make me a cake, but i wanted a pretty cake, so i made it myself. it started out with around 30 color flow butterflies... they took me a long time to do. but i think in the end they were worth it.

the mini cakes were white cake with raspberry and buttercream filling. they had a fondant layer for the top with a decorative butterfly. the main cake was a white chocolate cake with strawberry buttercream and bavarian cream filling, covered with white chocolate cream cheese filling with a fondant overlay.

all day

i have literally spent all morning and afternoon customizing my blog - i have kids, i don't have time for all this, but i made some.

i have some new cakes that i have made that i need to post on here. one very special cake was for our oldest son who just had his 6th birthday. it was fun to make his cake and the little fondant race cars. i spent many a night up until 1 or 2 am. but like i said before, it is a mild obsession and once i start i really need to finish. so here it is!
my husband told him that i could make him a color change cake, like the hot wheels, so this is what i came up with.

worth their weight??

any guesses on how much this cake weighs? let me know what you think. i will tell you in a few days...
there is a point in time when i do a cake, that i HATE it. (this would be that particular moment)

truly, and absolutely HATE it. i fret, and freak out, wondering how i am going to make it work, pondering if i should just go buy a DQ cake for a customer.

then i get to my favorite part - decorating. i LOVE decorating the cake. i could easily do without the fuss of making the cake, leveling it, assembling it, coloring and tinting fondant and icing and then getting the icing and or fondant onto the cake. it is a challenge at time and although i do love a challenge, with the wee ones running around and screaming, i could just as soon take the easier way out. that easier way would be to have someone else do all of the rest for me, and i could just decorate it.

again that being said, when it is over and done with, i love the feeling of accomplishment that i have finished it... ALL of it. my kitchen is exhausted and tired of being dirty, and so am i, but I can't help but stare at the masterpiece (i know, a little dramatic) and smile, knowing i did it all. it is kind of like having a baby, without the major pain and drama that that entails (details sparing).

this is my baby... there is a reason that Heavenly Father created him to be so cute. this is the reason:
if he wasn't cute, he'd be in some serious trouble! trying to eat my cake for a customer, through a tough layer of saran wrap. i will say that i do admire his persistance and that he would do anything to have a taste... just like his mommy!
